Dipper
A recent rare introduction are the
Egret`s
we also get the occasional
Cormorant
.
Hundreds of
Sand Martins
live in the banksides just downrstream and can be
observed flying low over the water catching the insects on a Summers evening.
A
Heronry
exists some 200m away to the rear of the Cottage high in the Trees.
We also get
Nuthatches
,
Treecreepers
and
Woodpecker
in the garden not to
mention all the other garden regulars.
Recently we have had the opportunity of observing
a pair of
Mandarin

Unfortunately the
Old Signal Box @ Penmaenpool is now redundant.
One of the great unexpected and most unusual sightings around the
STOREHOUSE
are the
Seals.
Th
e most frequent visitor is
"One Eye"
a Common seal.
More recently
Last seen over the period 17
th,18th,19th & 20th September 2009
a Large Grey was
observed by us and our customers causing havoc in "little Pil" Pool.
They occasionally arrive on a flood tide chasing the Salmon during
the Fishing
season all the way past the Cottage up-river towards Dolgellau.
Although
Otters
reside locally they are a very rare sight
La
st seen
22nd November 2008,
18th October 2009
but quite frequently thier footprints adorn the banksides at low tide.
W
it
h
the Cottage st
anding at the head of an Estuary it is not unusual to see diving
Cormorants
early morning in "Little Pil Pool".
Just like the rest of Wales the
Buzzard
is a very popular predator in the area and
is seen almost everywhere. A breeding pair are high on the hill behind The Storehouse.
Buzzards above The Storehouse
The
Red-Kite
are occasional visitors as they pop over
Cadair Idris
from the valleys
to the South.
A resident
Kingfisher
can be observed frequently as a feeding post exists directly
across the river and can be observed with the naked eye.
Herds of
Roe Deer
and
Feral Goat
adorn the Forests and high Mountain sides
to the North & roam freely on the plains near the Rhinogs.
