Dolgellau
The old market town of Dolgellau> lies in a valley on the southern
flanks of the Snowdonia National Park>.

Its location at the head of the magnificent Mawddach Estuary> offers the
perfect opportunity to discover the enviable coastline.
Dominated by the beautiful peak of Cadair Idris> it has more to offer
than just a stunning backdrop of mountains and spectacular scenery
making it an ideal place for exploring the surrounding area.
Take time to wander the distinctive streets of Dolgellau each one lined
with Listed stone buildings of architectural interest.
The town has a wide range of shops and a variety of Pubs restaurants
and take aways.
The area is steeped in history from Celtic to Roman.
It was also here that the Quaker movement took hold in Mid-Wales
Dolgellau is a Walkers and Cyclists paradise quite suitable for all abilities.
Just beyond the town lies a varied and most spectacular countryside with
little traffic when off the main routes.
Cregennan Lake> lies in the shadow of Cadair Idris and is truly a
spectacular and special place to visit.

Close by is the dominating massif of Cadair Idris.
There are many routes to the summit of Cader Idris> the easiest accent
starting from Ty-Nant car park close by Gwernan Lake Hotel only 3miles from
The Storehouse & Dolgellau town centre.

Within a few miles of town there are nature reserves, waterfalls, woodlands,
clear lakes and pristine rivers-ideal for fishing!
Coed y Brenin> 9000acres of forested hills and deep gorges lies only a few miles
North on the A470.
The Forestry Visitors centre is where you will find the Internationally renowned
mountain bike centre,nearby are the old gold mines involved in the boom of the
1800's and more recently providing gold for the Royal Rings.

The Welsh gold rush of the 19th Century was centered on the area and T.H. Roberts
Ironmongers in Dolgellau was an important source of panning equipment. In fact,
the gold and copper mines in the hills around the town employed over 500 miners
towards the end of the Century.
A touch further away you will find the legendary castles of North Wales,
some of the Worlds largest slate mines,steam railways, the Italiente village of
Portmierion> and much more.
The town also boasts a Hospital, Leisure Centre a Post office and places of worship
to mention but a few.
Dolgellau Golf Club> A 9 hole Golf course is situated within 1/2mile of Dolgellau
Town Centre to the North.
Tourist Information is situated in Eldon Square near the Bus Terminal.
